Point Cartwright Headland Watertank Mural Proposal
Unity Water Queensland 2015
Since the 70’s, the Point Cartwright water tank and lighthouse have been visual markers along our coastline, providing safe passage for ships and water for our surrounding suburbs.
The concrete water tank in particular provides a wonderful canvas to respond to site, creating for me a visual reflection of the importance of water. But most importantly the work will assist in camouflaging the structure, not to hide it per se, but to change it optically by breaking up the shape so it no longer appears as one large cylinder.
Therefore the lines I have chosen represent the ebb and flow of water, swells, lunar cycles and the tessellations of water markings on sand from the drag of the tide. Incorporated within the patterning is lines of luminescent paint that uses innovative light recycling technology, not unlike the coral luminescence. This highlighted photoluminescent feature creates an ambient night effect that will be seen from some distance and a talking point of what it is on the headland.
